In tech startups and companies, designers are very important and highly required professionals. There are different types of designers required whose roles vastly differ but overlap in some way or the other. Two of the important design features are user experience (UX) and user interface (UI). One designer can perform both roles, however, there are differences between the two.
The user experience designer’s role deals with conducting user research to understand consumer needs. Other roles include creating prototypes, testing the functionality of the product to mention a few. The user interface designer, on the other hand, is interested in the product visual; the aesthetics, colours and layouts and etc.
In the video Jay Dutta, Senior Vice President, UX Design at MakeMyTrip.com answers question from a startup company that needs design guidance. The company lacks a designer in their team but wants inspiration for how to approach UX/UI design.
His response is to avoid confusion from popular designer websites which provide flashy visual. Understanding the relationship between product thinking and design and how they merge is one important way of approaching it. In addition, learning the thinking behind UX/UI either by seeking mentorship or brainstorming ideas with friends is another approach.
Jay Dutta has extensive experience in design and design guidance. He works with startups as a mentor to leverage design in their prospective businesses.
